Menopause is the point of a woman’s lifetime at which the ovaries stop functioning and with it normal production of the ovarian hormones that assures both development of the female body and govern the menstrual or period cycles.
Menopause is noted by the finishing of menstruation. A woman becomes menopausal when she had not periods for twelve months and no physical contributing reason has been discovered. Menopause is a natural and unavoidable change in every woman’s body. Menopause generally happens somewhere between the ages of 45 to 55. However, at times for some women menopause has taken place as early on as 30s but also as late as in their 60s. A sign of a woman approaching menopause is the variations of the length of each month’s cycle. There is not know-how available that can forecast when a woman will be menopausal. It is generally assumed that each woman’s menopause commences at a very similar time of that of her mother’s menopause commencement.
Menopause takes place as a result of the ovaries stop or more accurately they make less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone. These internal secretions influence the menstruation cycle and gestation. Estrogen in addition to helps bones to sustain their density. Although the commonest menopausal symptom is changes in frequency and the length of the menstrual cycles, various other symptoms are generally experienced such as temper swings, hot flashes, night sweats, itchiness, vaginal dryness, tiredness, weight gain and depression.
Menopause takes place, in four phases but, no every single woman will go through all of them. The phases are: pre-menopause, peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause. The very first phase is the stage extending from the initial period to the final period. Peri-menopause; generally takes place about the middle ages of 40 years old to 55 years old with early menopause symptoms and menstrual irregularities. The menopause phase occurs at the final menstrual period. Finally, the post menopause phase that follows the final menstrual period.
Menopause also has categories. There are three such categories; natural, premature and artificial. The majority of the women will experience natural menopause. A number of women will experience their final period before the age of 40, around one percent, experience premature menopause. The most common reasons for premature menopause include factors such as genetic elements, exposure to chemicals or autoimmune disorders.
Post menopause phase occurs after the final menstrual period. Fall in the levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone could cause several health problems including; heart conditions and thinning of the bones (osteoporosis). During the post menopausal phase women can experience a threefold increased risk in having a heart condition than those of the equal age group but non menopausal women.
Calcium and adipose tissue (fat) are all important concerns that play a critical part in comforting the symptoms of menopause. For those post menopausal women who choose to apply hormone therapy (hormone-replacement therapy) they need at least 1000mg of daily intake of elemental calcium. Those who choose not to need up to 1,500 mg of daily elemental calcium to fulfill their calcium needs. Drinking milk,( rich calcium source), will meet some of the needs and when it is vitamin D fortified it will help to boost calcium absorption.
Select fruits such as oranges, figs, dates, prunes, apricots and pears, which are good sources of calcium. Additionally, include in your diet beans - pinto and kidney beans are good calcium sources. Raw broccoli is counted as an excellent source. Consume a few nuts each day particularly almonds and adopt a low-fat dieting.
